BY AALIYAH GLASGOW – PROGRESSIONS OFFICER AT LEAP
EMERGING VOICES
Hi, my name is Aaliyah Glasgow and I am the Progression Routes Officer for Leap. I see my role as primarily supporting programme graduates to make strides towards their career aspirations and working with them to identify their personal goals.
In the current climate, life is so uncertain for young people, and I consider my role as a privileged position. Every day, I get to work with different young people in different life stages, and act as a coach, mentor and friend when life is overwhelming them. I would describe myself as driven, passionate, and resilient. I try to bring these qualities to my work; supporting each young person to consider negative situations or challenges and see them as an opportunity for personal growth and development.
“NO DAY IS EVER THE SAME. IN THE MORNING I COULD BE HAVING CHECK UP CALLS, AND IN THE AFTERNOON WORKING THROUGH SPECIFIC JOB APPLICATIONS OR PASSION PROJECTS, OR SIGNPOSTING YOUNG PEOPLE TO ADDITIONAL SUPPORT SERVICES LIKE HOUSING OR FINANCIAL ADVICE.”
My focus for this year is to:
- Continue being available for the young people we work with
- Oversee the new youth advisory panel and ensure their ideas and creativity is fed into the organisation’s strategy and core messaging
- Build more partnerships with creative professionals and/or corporates to offer career opportunities or mentorship
If you or your organisation can support me to achieve any of the above three, I would be delighted to hear from you. My email is Aaliyah.Glasgow@leapcc.org.uk.
