Under Our Roof: Youth Hub

Our flagship co-production project Under Our Roof is a programme which provides conflict navigation for individuals aged 12-25 and offers support to foster carers and residential care workers operating within that environment.

On this youth hub page you will be able to learn more about our Under Our roof programme projects for those with experience of living in care and our growing resource toolkits to help you deal with personal and interpersonal conflict.

The therapeutic podcast

Over the course of 18 months we collaborated with eight young people who have experienced the care system to create Leap’s first Let’s Talk Conflict podcast series.

This series, which can be found on Acast, Apple Podcasts and Spotify, shares their knowledge and experiences to uplift and empower young care experienced people in navigating life’s conflicts and challenges.

It’s been like a form of therapy to talk with like-minded people who have had similar experiences. This group has boosted my confidence massively and made me have a feeling of fulfilment and belonging

The empowering performances

In 2022 fifty-five vibrant care-experienced young people, guided by us and in partnership with Playing On and the London Borough of Haringey, led their own theatre project known as Raising the Roof.

Using the power of storytelling, they crafted fictional characters who mirrored their own experiences within the care system. This approach offered a refreshing perspective, allowing participants to explore poignant themes while maintaining a healthy emotional distance.

The improvisation and character-driven narratives opened up a new world of expression – one where their personal struggles could find voice and meaning.

The resource packs

Working with care-experienced young people we have also been able to create valuable training toolkits tailored to the needs of young people with similar experiences.

These resources identify the emotional difficulties that many who have spent time in care experience and the ways they can be acknowledged and managed to ensure that conflict is resolved before it becomes a bigger problem.

Here’s a sample of some of our resources:

What they are and how to identify them within yourself
